Can you apply for the EIC Pathfinder as an individual organisation/ single beneficiary?

The EIC Pathfinder supports international research teams by provisioning up to 4 million euros in grant funding to pursue high-risk/high gain technological breakthroughs.

Currently, there is a requirement that this funding must be applied for as a ‘consortium’ of at least 3 distinct legal bodies. However, there is a way to apply for part of this funding as a single beneficiary/individual organisation.

What funding can you apply for as a single entity?

EIC Pathfinder funding is split into two distinct parts, Open Calls, which have no ‘thematic’ restrictions and are open to all cutting edge science projects, and Challenges which must meet one of six predefined challenges.

To meet eligibility criteria for an open call, the project’s consortia must be made up of at least 3 minimum legal entities (note, there is no maximum specified). However, for Challenges it is possible to submit an application as a single entity, with the expectation that you will still have to compete with those submitted by consortia.

The European Commission can also support the formation of consortia, helping to link up like-minded and mutually beneficial organisations to apply for funding. Check out the Partner Search Tool for more information.
